Alaska River Fishing
Situk River Fishing
The spring begins with a trophy steelhead run in the world renowned Situk River in April & May. Sockeye then take over the Situk with the peak happening the last two weeks of June and first two weeks of July, although the 3rd week is consistent as well. Silver salmon fill the river beginning in late August & run into October. Fat dolly vardens & rainbow trout follow the other runs into the river throughout the summer.
In September during the peak of silver salmon fishing the bright fish are found in all the waters of the area including the Lost River and Tawah Creek, both accessible by vehicle from the lodge. Another local Yakutat spot is the Ankau River, or more exactly the Ankau River bridge. It can be great fun to fish from the bridge with herring and catch a couple of silvers.

Flying out to other area rivers for king salmon or silver salmon can also be a great addition to your fishing trip to Yakutat, Alaska. There are two charter airlines in Yakutat, Alsek Air and Yakutat Coastal Airlines. It is often best to check in on these opportunities when you get to town and plan a last-minute flight when the fishing is hot.
